On June 2010 I was invited along with 29 other Military Spouses to attend a Fun Water Diva event hosted by our Military Housing at Wave House Mission Beach California. It was advertised as Safe & Fun afternoon of Surfing and Food. We got there all together but the facility workers were late and not ready for us. We were all handed a stack of forms and because we were late they said just sign the back and go in. In that stack was a waiver to release them from liability. During my first trip onto the Flow Rider I did ok. We had a gal who I am sure was under 18 yrs old instructing us on how to hold on tight and stick our butts our while using our core! The second time I got on my board waved off to the left getting stuck on the side curb and the attendant ran up and kicked it to release it. Well, I went flying in the air, did not let go of the D-Style handle, spun around a few times and then let go and rolled up top getting stuck in the wave...I felt hurt but thought maybe just sprained something. The next morning I went to the ER to find I had fractured my humerus and tore the heck out of two major tendons one partial thickness tear and the other full thickness tear also torn muscles. It is now 9 months later and I am about to go in for a second surgery. My left shoulder / arm will never be the same. They advertise this as a safe family day out...it is not safe. Even the pros get hurt. By the way, 5 of the 30 women got hurt bad...one leg got 6" gash from the plastic under the water was torn and sharp, two shoulders and two backs!

Hi, the military base housing threw a free day for 30 military spouses of active duty to use the wave house...for a fun day of play and food. They (the wavehouse personell) rushed us through the disclaimers, no time to read them. Assured us it was safe because of the padding. Then had two teenage girls line us up to use these machines...without much detail they just said " You grab the handle and hang on trying to balance yourself...with your core." It looked fun but one by one we all went down. When it was my turn the gal gave me the D-ring handle and after I got on the board it kinda drifted towards the "curb" and she kick/pushed the back of my board away from the side and I went down fast and hard...realizing hanging onto the handle was not a good idea, I let go and the wave shot me up the ramp rolling all over to the top. I knew right away that the fall and wave pressure hurt me. I went to the ER and was diagnosed having a fractured humerus. After 3 months of the fracture healing, and physical therapy I had an MRI done and now have been diagnosed with two completely torn tendons and muscles in my shoulder along with rough areas of bone which means I need major surgery that will make me unemployable for a minimum of 6 months to one year. This place is not for the novice as they advertise. It should be for professionals only. I feel like they should be liable for this life changing injury. Five out of our 30 women were injured...two shoulders, two backs and one 6" gash on her leg.

I work for WAC and trust me there are maintenance requests made for both wave riders all the time that are never done. There aren't enough saftey rquirements to keep you from dying every tme you're on it. And when people do die like they have there their families don't even get a oops sorry from anyone because they signed something saying we don't have to. Don't. Go. On. The. Flowrider. Find another place with one and make sure it's a safe facility before trying flowriding.
