Go Cart Racing

Summer and I went Go-Cart racing in Carlsbad last night. The place was a little tough to find because it is jammed in the back of a giant office park, but was well worth the search once we got there.

All of the carts are computerized electric carts with 20 horse power! They really are insanely fast (80 kilometers and hour/50mph?) and responsive. Electric vs gas go-carts means there are no gas fumes (the track is indoors), no oil slicks and no carts that weren’t tuned up.

I can’t even begin to start to tell you how much I loved the opportunity AND excuse to drive like an asshole without consequences. So I won’t.

It is a pretty tight course except for one stretch that allows you to open it up and haul ass. The first turn after the straight away is just asking you to drift the cart sideways without letting up on the gas, the tires catch right before you hit the wall and shoot you into the next turn like a rocket! Its that first big turn (going clockwise around the track) after the finish line.

We got 14 laps for $25 bucks each. We waited around for about ten minutes for our race to start, we put on our head cloths and helmets got a quick tutorial and we were off to the races. It was well worth the price, and because my rad girlfriend is a race car driver at heart she had a great time too! We are definately going back, not just because it was fun, but because I need to give summer a chance to take down The Go-Cart Champion (me)!!!!

  1. The plan of the track gets me all nostagic for an ancient Sinclair Spectrum game called Supersprint.

I think it had just 3 keys: left, right and go!

  2. I remember that as the game that had a steering wheel (that you could spin thousands of times in the same direction), a high low gear shifter and a gas pedal on the floor? I don’t remember just buttons…perhaps the arcade I grew up next to had the best of the best ;-)
