Nope, this isn’t a random post at all (insert witty sarcasm). I guess I should categorize this one into “Completely Random“, but I’m thinking it should be under the “Family” category.
A few days ago, Sydney (2 years 6 months) and I went for a walk around the property. If you have any children, you know it takes a bunch of work just to get them ready to go out of the house. Today was no different.
After getting her shoes on, she decided she wanted to wear her froggy life preserver. The one she refused to wear in the water. Suddenly, this thing was the best thing in the world. It must be great to be a kid.
Halfway through the walk, she decided it was too hot, and I carried it the rest of the way. Super cute.
While I’m at it here, if you have a two year old and would like to know if wearing a life preserver that looks like a frog around you house with no intention of going swimming, you can check out these two year old gross motor skills milestones.

It’s time to pay homage to coffee, the greatest adult beverage in the world. Yep, I said it. I think coffee is better than beer. I know some of you are booing me right now, and I don’t hold that against you. It is a very difficult thing for me to admit to myself, but it’s true. Coffee is there for me, 24/7, worldwide.
My tools of choice for a delicious cup of coffee is are; Krups whole coffee bean grinder and a French Press. This makes the best coffee. Once the coffee is ready to go, I wait two minutes, I pour it into a mug and prepare it 3 ways depending on my mood;
Coffee at Home – Three Ways
[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #9b9b9b;”] 1. [/dropcap]Coffee with turbinado sugar and half and half – served in a pint glass
This is my usual cup of morning coffee. I tip the press at least three times before noon and enjoy them sweeter and sweeter as the morning goes on.
[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #9b9b9b;”] 2. [/dropcap]Coffee with a teaspoon of sweetened condense mile – served in a pint glass
Lately, I have been drinking these every morning and switching to sugar and half and half for my afternoon cup. I think this is considered a Thai Coffee at coffee shops. A little goes a long way, so don’t burn yourself out of this delicious goodness provided in a can (great for car camping as no refrigeration is needed until it’s opened).
[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #9b9b9b;”] 3. [/dropcap]Coffee with ground Mexican Chocolate and aerated, sweetened law fat milk and froth. – served in a pint glass
This is desert. I love this stuff and I make it for myself and my girlfriend/baby momma Summer in the afternoons around 3:00pm to get us over the midday hump.
Make A Coffee Desert at Home
Sometimes you need to freestyle your coffee style to mix in something new and discover a new delicious coffee treat you can make yourself at home.
I made this video a bunch of years ago with a buddy. I don’t know what this coffee drink is called, but according to all the haters on YouTube, I didn’t name it correctly. Also, apparently none of the commenters are surfers that live in the tropics either, I am chastized for not having a shirt on. Oh well, you can’t win them all!

Delicious coffee. I’m sipping on some as I type this post
I’m heading out the door right now to go for a surf. I have had tons of deadlines and less and less people to help me get the work done so I have been going full steam since November. Working like that takes its toll, and I love the fact that I love going to work everyday. One of the reasons I love it is because I work for myself and have created the opportunity to surf when the waves are good…and when the waves are bad.
Right now, I’m going to surf, and the waves are bad. No worries though, good exercise, fun turns and it’s the tropics. No need for a wetsuit.
After being told that feeding my daughter Olive Oil was not healthy, I spent a little time on the Internet checking out my babies momma claims. I was making pasta sauce from scratch and upon seeing me pour olive oil into the pan to heat up the garlic, she told me she wasn’t going to feed our daughter that sauce and she proceded to open up a jar of pre-made pasta sauce from the store. She also opted to cook a different type of pasta because apparently spinach fettuccine wasn’t healthy enough either. I will say that the garlic bread I was making was ridiculously unhealthy, so if she wanted me to start giving Syd healthier stuff, it was a good time to not cook garlic bread.
All this no olive oil nonsense was hard for me to swallow because I grew up on Olive Oil. My mom put olive oil and garlic on everything but our our pancakes! How could it be that olive oil is not good for you?
Well, it turns out she was very wrong. Here is what some of my research uncovered;
The main type of fat found in all kinds of olive oil is monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). MUFAs are actually considered a healthy dietary fat. The MUFA’s in Olive Oil help lower your risk of heart disease. MUFAs may lower your total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. ~MayoClinic
Also, A study by Dr. Andrew Hart of the University of East Anglia’s School of Medicine, published in Bloomberg Business Week, suggests that consumption of olive oil may also prevent a form of bowel disease called ulcerative colitis.
Storage – Keep in in the fridge or in a dark cabinet because Olive Oil is effected by the sun and could possibly loose some of it’s health benefits if it is overexposed.
Cold Pressed and Raw – Make sure the olive oil you buy is cold pressed and raw Extra Virgin Olive Oil. If you buy olive oil that doesn’t say cold pressed and raw it may have been extracted using heat methods which could make it less healthy.
Don’t Just Add Olive Oil – Don’t just add olive oil to a dish in hopes of making it healthier. If you are making eggs in the morning and usually pan fry them in butter, adding olive oil does not make them healthier. What makes them healthier is using olive oil in the pan (no butter) and while you are at it, only cook the egg whites too.
