BUYER BEWARE – Sean Singleton and Guaranteed Freshness Web Design Ripped Me Off

I really can’t believe that it came down to this. I am making a post on my personal blog about a new designer that I started to work with back in June of 2011 because, after I paid him, he stopped communicating with me. He didn’t return phone calls, text messages or emails. Ultimately, after four weeks of no response communication from him, I filed a complaint with PayPal (I paid him in advance for his web design work) and am making this post so that anyone doing searches for Sean Singleton will see how he treats his clients after he gets paid.

Sean Singleton

Will you please give me an update on where you are with client design and/or delivery dates.

Thanks

I at least some sort of response from you.

You said you would have something for me at the beginning of last week
so I emailed you when I didn’t see it. I’m not putting pressure on
you, but I need some sort of communication from you regarding where
you are with the design on this project so we can get a build out
started and I can keep the clients expectations set properly.

Thanks and please hit me up with some info.

Thanks

I am relying on you to do this design and work and I pre-paid you for
it! If you’re not able to work on this project, please just let me
know and send me money via paypal so I can afford to pay someone else
to finish what you started. I now have a client that is pushing me to
get this done and you went MIA on me.

I would like to keep working with you on this but need to hear from you.

Thanks

Are these emails getting to you? I’m now trying the email on your
website since I haven’t gotten a response from you in two weeks at
your gmail address.

The above correspondence with Guaranteed Freshness and Sean Singleton only represent my emails to him, not my repeated phone calls or text messages.

Look, I work with 1099 and independent contractors all the time in my business. Most of my design work is done through outsourcing in the United States and I keep 99% of my important SEO and business building tactics in office at Reardon Corporation. I understand people get too busy and drop the ball, but you should never be too busy to communicate that you are too busy. Worst case scenario, you tell someone that you bit off more than you can chew with this project and you need to divy up the hours you worked and refund the rest. But come on, the silent treatment AND keeping all the money you were paid in advance to complete the job?. That is just a weak move.

Sean Singleton, if you read this post about you and your web design business, I welcome you to communicate with me about how we can fix this situation. I have already hired another designer to take over your web design project and need to pay them with the money that I paid you to complete the project in our contract.

Paying Your Electric Bill is Important

I never open my mail unless it’s from the IRS or a friend. All of my billing comes to me via email and my online banking service at Banco Popular. Today, Summer is trying to teach me how to pile less and file more by opening all of my mail with me and filing it appropriately.

We opened a bill from the Electric company that is past due from last November. What? Are you kidding me? So, I called and investigated what it was all about and apparently all of the online payments I was making to keep current we applying to past due balances instead of the current bill. So, over the past 12 months I accrued about $500 in unpaid electricity at the house. I really hate getting sprung with suprise bills, especially when they are for so much.

I will say though, this is all my fault. I wish the billing department would send me a total amount due at the bank so I could have at least known what was going on 6 months ago and made the payment then. Oh, well, live and learn. (minus $500 from this months budget).

The Stock Market Shuffle

I know life is risky these days. All these giant corporations that have been cheating the little guys are getting bailed out by the government while honest home owners are still going down the forecloser tube AND the stock market is going crazy.

Scared money doesn’t work.

The press is sensationalizing the hell out of everything…yet, Warren Buffet is saying NOW is the time to invest in the stock market. Invest carefully and only with money you can afford to loose…but there is definitely some money to be made out there.

2008 stock market shuffle

If you invest $100 in Wachovia two weeks ago you would have $600 in hand right now. If you invest $5,000 in Wachovia, you would have $30,000 in your pocket.

2007 Tax Information good for me to know

I posted a few things I found online while researching my tax liabilities as a sole owner LLC. Pretty interesting stuff that could help you out too…I’ll keep posting tidbits here and do my best to keep it organized.

Single-Owner LLCs and Taxes

The IRS treats one-member LLCs as sole proprietorships for tax purposes. This means that the LLC itself does not pay taxes and does not have to file a return with the IRS.

As the sole owner of your LLC, you must report all profits (or losses) of the LLC on Schedule C and submit it with your 1040 tax return. Even if you leave profits in the company’s bank account at the end of the year — for instance, to cover future expenses or expand the business — you must pay income tax on that money.

If your California LLC will regularly need to retain a significant amount of profits in the company, you (and your co-owners, if you have any) may be able to save money by electing to have your LLC taxed as a corporation.

The self-employment tax rate for 2006 for business owners is 15.3% of the first $94,200 of income and 2.9% of everything over $94,200.

Expenses and Deductions – Taxes and California

As you no doubt already know, you don’t have to pay taxes — income taxes or self-employment taxes — on most of the money that your business spends in pursuit of profit. You can deduct (“write off”) your legitimate business expenses from your business income, which can greatly lower the profits you must report to the IRS. Deductible expenses include start-up costs, automobile and travel expenses, equipment costs, and advertising and promotion costs.

California exacts a hefty $800 “minimum franchise tax” per year from LLCs

Can Corporate Taxation Cut Your LLC Tax Bill?

If you will regularly need to keep a substantial amount of profits in your LLC (called “retained earnings”), you might benefit from electing corporate taxation (which you can do as an LLC). Any LLC can choose to be treated like a corporation for tax purposes by filing IRS Form 8832 and checking the corporate tax treatment box on the form.

Because the corporate income tax rates for the first $75,000 of corporate taxable income are lower than the individual income tax rates that apply to most LLC owners, this can save you and your co-owners money in overall taxes.

Lingerie and Sexy Girlfriend

I know what you are thinking, so get your mind out of the gutter. I am not going to post any pictures of my sexy girlfriend in lingerie here. What I am going to do is brag for her..because she won’t do it.

Summer works her ass off. She works a minimum of 10 hours a day 6 days a week running her company and is constantly exploring new ways of running her team and business more efficiently as well as researching new products her customers will like. One of the very important things she does for all of her Vicious Enterprises stores is Search Engine Optimization. It is a very time consuming part of her business but it is also fun because you always get to explore new ways of generating traffic to your site.

Here is the fruit of Summers labor…her LaLaLingerie.com store is number 1 on Google out of over 60 million results for the term “Lingerie”. Great work Summer!
