Are you looking for a good camera with HD Video capabilities with a budget under $3,000? Me too!
I needed a camera for work projects and a digital camera that I could use to take some great family video/photos on the side when it’s not set up in my office for talking head videos. So, while shopping around for a camera I kept in mind that I needed to satisfy my work needs first and the personal stuff would just be a bonus.
Here is what I recommend buying;
Canon 7D – Perfect for HD Video
After discussing my needs with a few boutique creative shops and a few friends that work on TV and Movies, I was told that the best bang-for-the-buck is going to be the Canon 7D SLR digital camera. Check out the look of the camera. It is very traditional looking with some modern ergonomic features like the extended handle where the trigger finger can rest while firing off 18 Megapixel photos. The Canon 7D also has awesome movie making characteristics. It captures full HD movies at 1920×1080 at up to 30 frames for second. It’s an insane video camera and takes absolutely gorgeous videos.
Great Video Without Profesional Lighting
Sure, you can turn on your camera and start shooting video but whoever is in the video will most likely have dark shadows across them and appear as if being shot in a dark cigar bar from the prohibition days (I’m picturing brown panel walls, nicotine stains etc). The combat that, you could spend $1000 in profesional grade lighting for a home project or you can buy a great Canon L Series lens that has a very low aperture. The one I recommend is the 1.2. This camera lens will allow you to shoot video as well as still shots that will look great in low lighting and create a great depth-of-feel like the real movies.
Movement Makes Your Video 100% More Appealing
The last thing I recommend when shooting your own small business videos to promote on your website and Youtube is taking dolly shots. Dolly shots add movement to a video that may otherwise not have any movement at all. For example, when I shoot my talking head video, I will sitting at my desk and will not be moving around too much. Shooting a dolly shot allows the camera to move while you stay still. This creates movement in the background of the shot and helps keep the viewer interested.
The recommended links to Amazon include all the chargers, batteries, bags etc that you will need to run your entire shoot. Also, I was not paid to make this post but if you buy the merchandise above via the links I provided, I will make a commission off the sale.

I was reading the New York Times this morning and noticed a headline indicating the Obama is going to suggest a 28% standard tax rate for Corporations instead of the current 35% (2011). To me, this would be great! I am the sole owner of a corporation and pay out the wazoo in taxes. I pay the 35% corporate tax rate and then pay personal taxes on the dollar amount that I distribute to myself at the end of the year. Essentially, I feel like I am getting double taxed.
So, as I am reading this article from a liberal standpoint, I notice the imagery the media is using to depict Corporate America. It is a factory with a foremen walking through a designated walkway between machines and factory workers. Sure, it is a great choice of stock imagery because it is a factory! Everyone knows factories are corporations, right? Well, I say wrong.
I am not a giant corporation, I am just one person. I have a team that works with me, but they all work as 1099 contractors but I am still in the 35% tax bracket just like the one in the factory above.
Well, how are we supposed to handle taxes for corporations like mine? Am I supposed to get taxed the same way giant corporations are being taxed? I don’t get it. Tax should be based on income, not how you structure your business.

As a Pandora One member, I get to check out the new Pandora website ahead of the pack. I gladly took a test drive today, and guess what; It looks just like the FaceBook user interface. Now, I’m not bashing on Pandora because I love what they have done for me, and everyone else that got sick of having to change their music library every time a new technology came out (CD, DVDs, iPods). Most of the music I listen to is music that I have purchased at one time or another, but have no idea where it is after lost hard drives, stolen computers and scratched CD’s.
With that little disclaimer, back to the reason for this blog post. I think all of the new social media sites out there are looking very similar to facebook. Social media is taking the logical evolution to a segmented industry. Much like nearly every business out there like advertising, plumbing and building, if you find a specialty within the big picture you can build yourself a great niche business.
The way I see it, all the business’s out there that saw the success of social media with FaceBook are now trying to create a niche in their industry. Pandora is just like them…creating their own social network on the new Pandora One website.
Have a look for yourself and tell me if it looks anything like facebook to you.

Living in Puerto Rico is great. Our property is growing in, the house is close to complete and we absolutely love Rincon. The Reardon office is the most comfortable place I have ever worked. Building it from the ground up gave me the opportunity to add everything I wanted in an office.
Gecko in My Puerto Rico Office
We deal with a little more business interruption down here than we did in California. Our Internet goes down occasionally, forcing an early/late lunch hour. Sometimes our power goes out and just last week the air conditioner went out for a while. But that is really all I can complain about besides the monthly Hacienda payments.
This morning, I walked into the office with a hot cup of coffee and there was a gecko on my desk. When I sat down he cruised across my desk and hopped onto my phone. He chilled there for about an hour and then ran off…hopefully to eat more blood sucking insects.

I started working on the Internet in 2001. I was a sales guy for a large company that sold directory positions to lawyer and doctors. I had drive and was hungry to be successful in life but I hated going to the office 6 days a week from 6:00am to 7:00pm. I had to put on dress clothes and walk the walk of a ‘profesional’ even though I never saw clients face-to-face.
After a year or two, I left that company and headed out on my own determined to work for myself and make a living from the Internet.
Here I am 9 years later, working on the Internet. I work from an office at home (in Puerto Rico) and this is what my office looks like when I travel and work from a mobil office.
